Fish ‘n’ Chips – A Great British Tradition

Fish and chips first appeared in the UK in the 1860s, and by 1910, there were over 25,000 fish and chip shops across the UK. By the 1930s there were over 35,000 shops, but sadly the trend reversed and by 2009 there were only approximately 10,000. The British Government safeguarded the supply of fish and chips during the First World War and the Second World War and it was one of the few foods in the UK not subject to rationing during the wars!

Delicious The fish was very meaty chips lovely pea fritter blast from the past and fantastic. He even made me some scraps because he didn’t have any. Next visit to Clowance we are going back to Gordys absolutely lovely,

Fish and Chips the way they used to be! I don't know what magic they're working in these fryers but my wife and I both remarked 'These taste like how I remember fish and chips tasting when I was a kid!'. We were very impressed and tried to explain the phenomenon to our kids with limited success :DThe grumpy older fella on the fryer had some very amusing banter with the girl on the till who couldn't quite seem to give him the orders the way he wanted them. Only made the whole experience better to be honest....might have just been an act!Almost worth the drive from South Wales to Cornwall just for these fish and chips. Bloody lovely!

Wife's best fish and chips EVER! Over the years , every time we stay in Praze we always get fish and chips from here. The new owners did not let us down. We both had cod and chips. The fish was cooked fresh and was a good size. The chips were as chips should be, crisp on the outside and hot and fluffy on the inside. Staff were very friendly and chatty and I wish them all the very best luck going forward.
